About Candle Lake Provincial Park

Candle Lake Provincial Park is located approximately 80 kilometers northeast of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, encompassing a large portion of the northern shore of Candle Lake. The park features a rich boreal forest environment dominated by aspen, white spruce, and jack pine, supporting a variety of wildlife including white-tailed deer, moose, black bears, and numerous bird species. The park’s namesake, Candle Lake, is renowned for its clear, turquoise waters and sandy beaches, providing ideal settings for swimming, boating, and fishing. Visitors can explore several hiking trails winding through mixed forest and around lake shorelines, offering views of unique granite outcrops and scenic overlooks. The area holds historical significance for indigenous communities and was later developed as a recreational destination in the mid-20th century. Popular activities include camping, fishing for northern pike and walleye, canoeing, paddleboarding, and snowmobiling during winter months. The park’s campgrounds and community upland areas provide family-friendly amenities as well as more rustic, natural settings. Landmarks such as Minowukaw Beach and the adjacent green space along the shoreline remain favorite spots. Winter brings opportunities for cross-country skiing and ice fishing, enhancing the year-round visitor appeal. Candle Lake Provincial Park is valued for its balance of natural beauty and accessible recreation, making it a frequent choice for locals and tourists seeking outdoor adventure or quiet nature retreats within Saskatchewan’s boreal landscape.
